Counting the Cost!

Counting the Cost!

Jesus’ perspective on discipleship!

Our perspective matters! It is of importance when it comes to how our perspective relates/falls in line with the Word of God. To gain a biblical perspective on the cost of discipleship, we must learn and know the word of God. Jesus spoke very directly about discipleship, Luke 9:23-24 is just one powerful example.

Luke 9:23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me
A clean heart is necessary!

Luke 9:24 For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.

APPLICATION: Questions to consider/reflect?

Do I desire/wish to follow Jesus Christ?

Notes: ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Am I willing to deny my selfish desires and give up my life for Jesus Christ?

Have I “diluted” this verse to fit my selfish desires by saying that Jesus simply wants me to be “willing” to do these things?

Does the idea of giving up my life for Jesus seem harsh/demanding/unreasonable?

“It is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep, to gain something that he cannot lose”
Jim Elliott

Just as in the Old Testament book of Joshua; Jesus’ statement/invitation carries a magnificent charge:

DECIDE!
